Our Story

Twenty-nine years of family, food, and la dolce vita in Dunkirk.

Fresh pasta being rolled by hand in the Mamma Lucia kitchen

It started with a door opening in 1997

On September 12, 1997, Sal and Maria Lubrano opened the doors of Mamma Lucia in the heart of Dunkirk. Their success was immediate — down-home Italian cooking with the freshest ingredients made Mamma Lucia the talk of the town.

Nearly three decades later, the Lubranos still serve Calvert County the best Italian food around, from recipes carried across the Atlantic and perfected at home.

Fresh mozzarella and basil being added to pizza dough

Everything by hand, every day

Fresh mozzarella pulled in-house. Dough proofed slowly and stretched to order. Sauces that start with whole tomatoes and end hours later. When we say homemade, we mean it the way your grandmother meant it.

You'll probably meet them tonight

The Lubranos spend most of their time in the restaurant. It's quite likely you'll meet one of them on your next visit — if so, please take a moment to stop and say hello. Tell them how you liked your meal, and what they can do to make your next visit even better.

Arrivederci a presto!
